(2)

If I fortunately [ luckily ] pass the entrance exam for university, I want to study what I haven’t

 learned for the exam.

After I am fortunately admitted to [ into ] university, I’d like to study something new that I haven’t

    studied for the entrance exam.

 ※
「大学に入学する」         get into [ go (up) to / enter ] university

= be admitted to [ into ] university

=「大学の入試に合格する」 pass the entrance exam for university

That’s good, but don’t work too hard and get sick.  Having fun is also important.

That’s good.  But be careful not to work too hard and get sick.  Having a good time

[ Enjoying yourself ] with your friends is
important, too.

e.g.     I feel sleepy, but I want to finish reading the book.

I feel sleepy.  But I want to finish reading the book.

◎ I feel sleepy.  However, I want to finish reading the book.

× I feel sleepy, however I want to finish reading the book.

have fun / have a good time /  enjoy oneself / hang out

1.DO JOB TASK,  2.MAKE EFFORT

Yes, you are right.  I will have fun, too.

I understand.  I will keep it in mind.

 ※

However, like studying, you shouldn’t have too much fun.  It is important to do anything moderately.

Anyway, I hope you will pass the exam.

You shouldn’t study too hard, and similarly, you shouldn’t enjoy yourself too much.  Taking

[ Keeping ] ( a ) balance is important.  Anyway, I wish you success in the exam.

“If I fortunately [ luckily ] pass the entrance exam for university, I want to study what I haven’t

learned for the exam.”

“That’s good, but don’t work too hard and get sick.  Having fun is also important.”

“Yes, you are right.  I will have fun, too.”

“However, like studying, you shouldn’t have too much fun.  It is important to do anything moderately.

Anyway, I hope you will pass the exam.”

“After I am fortunately admitted to [ into ] university, I’d like to study something new that I haven’t

studied for the entrance exam.”

“That’s good.  But be careful not to work too hard and get sick.  Having a good time [ Enjoying

yourself ] with your friends is important, too.”

“I understand.  I will keep it in mind.”

“You shouldn’t study too hard, and similarly, you shouldn’t enjoy yourself too much.  Taking

[ Keeping ] ( a ) balance is important.  Anyway, I wish you success in the exam.”

“If I’m lucky enough to get into university I would like to attempt a field of study not on the entrance

exam.

“Well, that’s fine, but try not to fall ill from overwork. Having fun is also important.

“You are so right. I will do my best on this front [ aspect ] as well.

“But just as with study, you shouldn’t overdo it.  Keeping a good balance is the key [ critical / important ].

At any rate, I pray that you will pass.

“If I luckily [ fortunately ] go up to university, I want to study a subject [ subjects ] which I haven’t

studied for the entrance exam.

“That is good, but you shouldn’t overwork and ruin your health [ don’t study too hard and destroy your

health / you mustn’t study as hard as to ruin your health ].  Having fun is also important.

That’s true. [ I understand. / I see. / I agree. ]  I will also have fun [ enjoy myself ] .

“ However, you shouldn’t go too far [ have too much fun ] like studying. [ But having too much fun

is as bad as studying too hard. /
However, it is bad to do something too much. ]

What is important
[ The important thing ] is to keep your balance [ balance / extent / degree ].

Anyway, I wish you good luck . [ Well, I hope you will succeed.]

◎ When I traveled to Eastern Europe two years ago, I was surprised to know that the
square in a town and many historical buildings surrounding it were totally rebuilt
[ had been totally rebuilt ] by using old pictures of them, though they had been
destroyed in World War .

◎ I took a trip to Eastern Europe two years ago and then I was surprised to know
that people there used [ had used ] old pictures and totally rebuilt [ had totally
rebuilt ] the square and many historical buildings around it, though they had been
destroyed in the Second World War.

e.g.1
◎ After I got up this morning, I ate breakfast and left for school.

△ After I had gotten up this morning, I ate breakfast and left for school.

◎ I got up this morning, ate breakfast and left for school.

e.g.2
◎ When I got to the station, the train had already left.

× When I got to the station, the train already left.→

◎ I got to the station after the train had left.

△or○ I got to the station after the train left.

◎ The train left and I got to the station.

※ 「広場」 ◎ the square ◎ the plaza ○ the open space

※「第二次世界大戦」the Second World War = World War → 冠詞の有無に注意!

※「~を復元する」◎ rebuild~ ◎ restore~ ◎ build ~again ◎ bring back~

◎ I was deeply moved by people’s pride and passion, and I didn’t know what to say.

◎ They were so proud and passionate that I was impressed and couldn’t say anything
[ was at a loss for words ].

※ 「誇り」pride、「情熱」passion(いずれも基本は不可算名詞)を名詞のまま使ってもいいが、

※ 「(~に)感動する」be moved [ impressed ] by~

※ 「言葉を失う」 can’t say anything / be at a loss for words /
don’t know what to sayなど平易な表現を使えばいい。

◎ I really felt that we should try our best to preserve tradition(s).

◎ Then I realized how important it is to preserve tradition(s) [ the importance
of preserving tradition(s) ].

or become aware of a particular fact or situationとある。

Heritage is our legacy from the past, what we live with today, and what we pass on to future
generations. Our cultural and natural heritage are both irreplaceable sources of life and inspiration.
Places as unique and diverse as the wilds of East Africa’s Serengeti, the Pyramids of Egypt, the Great
Barrier Reef
in Australia and the Baroque cathedrals of Latin America make up our world’s heritage. What makes the concept of World Heritage exceptional is its universal application. World Heritage sites
belong to all the peoples of the world, irrespective of the territory on which they are located.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) seeks to encourage
the identification, protection and preservation of cultural and natural heritage around the world considered to be of outstanding value to humanity. This is embodied in an international treaty called

[ get rid of / recover from ] fatigue caused by city life is to feel relaxed in nature.
But it makes me sad to see some people breaking off branches from trees or leaving their
garbage behind. Such people might be able to recover from fatigue themselves, but they
do great damage to nature at the same time.

More and more people go camping on weekends. It is true that the best way to get rid
oneself of the stress resulting from the kind of busy lifestyle of the city is to surround
oneself in nature and just relax, but I feel sad when I see people breaking branches off
the trees or throwing away their garbage in the woods. Human beings can get refreshed
from such a weekend, but it is nature that ends up suffering.

◎ Children are really interested in many things [ anything / everything ].

◎ Children want to know a lot about many things [ anything / everything ].

※ 「~に好奇心を示す」be curious about~ / show curiosity about ~を使ってももちろん
Children show curiosity about everything.

everything (すべてのこと)、anything

◎ However, in many animals’ cases, it seems that they lose interest in many things
after they grow up.

○ However, many animals aren’t as interested in many things after they grow up as
they were young.

It seems that~. / It is said that~. / I hear that~.
では、It seems that~. A is not as…as B. 「AはBほど…

◎ On the other hand, human beings are still interested in many things even after they
grow old.

◎ Unlike them, human beings can stay [ remain ] interested in many things even after they
grow old.

よって、On the other hand,「一方」

◎ So only human beings may be a lucky animal that can enjoy being children forever.

○ So it may mean that human beings are luckily given the special right to be children
forever.

あるいは英英辞典での定義によると、a special right or advantage that a particular person
or a group of people hasとあるので、the special right to~とするのも許容範囲であろう。

※ 「~を享受する」enjoy~ 英英辞典での定義はto have something good that is an advantage

Both children and young animals are curious about everything. It is said that many
kinds of animals show less curiosity when they grow up than they did when they were small.
However, human adults are as eager to learn about various kinds of things as they were
when they were young. It follows that human beings are a privileged species because their
hearts remain young regardless of how old they are.

Children are full of curiosity. As far as animals are concerned, however, many adults
don’t seem to be as interested in things as they were when they were young. In contrast,
human beings can maintain their curiosity about a variety of things even when they get
older. So it can be said that we are a blessed species that enjoys the privilege of
feeling as if we were children as long as we wish.

Children are full of curiosity. But while many other animals seem to become less and
less curious as they grow mature, human beings ( are able to ) continue to be curious about
various things even after they have grown up [ become old ]. Given this [ Thus ] we might
say [ it might be said ] that human beings are fortunate in that they can enjoy the
privilege of being [ remaining ] children however old they become.

Children are curious about everything ( around them ). In the case of most animals,
as they mature, they lose the curiosity they had when young. Even after growing old,
however, human beings can remain interested in various things. This means that human
beings might be happy because they can continue to enjoy being children forever.
